FAQ
FAQ
Is my video uploaded?
No. Frame extraction and GIF encoding both happen inside your browser. Your video is never sent anywhere.
How do I make the GIF smaller?
Size grows with width × height × number of frames. Dropping the width to 320 px, the frame rate to about 10 fps and keeping the clip short helps the most. Using 64 or 32 colors or turning off dithering makes it lighter still, though gradients may look banded.
Which video files can I open?
Anything your browser can play. MP4 (H.264) and WebM almost always work, but iPhone HEVC videos and some MOV or MKV files may not open depending on the browser. In that case, convert them to MP4 first.
Does the GIF have sound? Is there a length limit?
The GIF format can't hold audio, so only the picture is kept. To stay within browser memory, you can make up to 30 seconds and 450 frames at a time. Check the copyright before sharing GIFs made from someone else's video.
