How is reading and speaking time calculated?

Reading time assumes an average of 238 words per minute and speaking time 140 words per minute. Actual times vary by person and by how dense the text is.

How are words and sentences counted?

A word is any run of characters separated by spaces or line breaks. A sentence ends with a period, question mark, exclamation point or ellipsis followed by a space or the end of the text.
